| Bio: | Who is Narwen? Narwen is an 18-year-old law student at the University of Oxford, England, who lives in the little town of Chester on the Welsh border when she is forced to leave the Oxford bubble for the holidays. In term time, my week involves rather a lot of late-night conversations with some wonderful people I'm lucky enough to call my friends, spectacular midnight feasts, collective trips to the supermarket to stock up for these feasts, group jaunts around Oxford (where we gaze longingly at the shop windows with the realisation that we can't afford to buy anything), walks down to the college bar, fun parties thrown by law firms (they've hit on the best way to get students to show an interest in working for them - provide FREE food and alcohol), dressing up in outrageous costumes for student 'bops' (Oxford slang for party or 'breach of peace'), staggering home from the legal bookshop with more and more ridiculously expensive and HEAVY textbooks every other week, dodging the hundreds of tourists who like to wander into college and take pictures all day (even when you are looking like something the cat brought home), and reading some (read: upwards of 30 each WEEK) wonderful (and not so wonderful) poetry as part of my job as a submissions editor for one of the Oxford student newspapers... Around all these activities I also have to fit in several hours of reading legal textbooks and cases and journals, frantic essay writing, running to and fro lectures, and the occasional forage for (preferably free) food, when the stomach starts to complain. The downside of being an Oxford law student is that I have no free time - I can't remember the last time I sat down at a piano for more than ten minutes in a row, or listened to music for *fun* (rather than as an accompaniment to my dishwashing or laundry sorting). From someone who devoured around three novels a week I have gone to someone who can only gaze longingly at the pretty paperbacks on my bookshelves while my textbooks take over my life. The upside of being an Oxford student, however, is that I live in what I consider to be the most beautiful city in the world, surrounded by centuries of history and atmosphere, interacting with some of the brightest minds in the country (even if they set REALLY mean essays...), but most of all, being able to have a blast all day long, come rain or shine or essay crisis, with a fabulous group of friends. When I wake up every morning (or afternoon, as the case may be) the first thought that runs through my head is that I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world but here in this little bubble that is Oxford... If you catch me on a good day (i.e. when I don't have an essay due in), you will find that I LOVE to talk. I love to argue...I'm rather stubborn, I'm afraid, and won't let you get away easily! I can be impatient, obsessive and nitpicky about small things. Including grammar and punctuation and spelling. Beware. I'm extremely competitive, and like to succeed in the things I do. As a student, I have perfected the art of procrastination. I seem to live my life five minutes late. I daydream a lot - people tell me I live in my own little world most of the time, away in the clouds somewhere. I'm a hopeless romantic - I love to fall in love with everything around me. Little things make me happy, like a squirrel outside my window in the morning, or the smell of damp earth after the rain, or a friend knocking on my door at two in the morning to ask how the essay is coming along... I care deeply for my loved ones and am thankful for the people around me, who are willing to put up with me through thick and thin. I live my life with the firm belief that you can never call too many people your friends. So don't let my stangeness frighten you away - come say hi! Be warned in advance, however, of the randomness of this journal - you will find strange musings and thoughts, but also drama aplenty from the not-so-great situations I seem to get myself into!
